“Miss World”, as one of the globally known beauty pageant has gone a long long way since its outset in 1951. Though “Miss World” pageant has since been subjected to many arguments, still these weren’t a hinder to its worldwide success. This annual competition became the most watched program on television definitely because most of us has an innate passion for beauty.
As the oldest running international beauty competition, it had produced lines of “beauty with a purpose” from around the world. And among these titled beauties, we consider this ten as the best. Let’s start the countdown:
#10 Megan Young
She was the first Filipina to win the title. She was crowned “Miss World” at Bali, Indonesia in 2013. But Megan Young was more than just a beauty queen. Prior to her winning, she was a famous actress from the Philippines, who started at the age of fifteen as a contestant of “StarStruck”, a Philippine reality television show. Aside from acting, Young was also into modelling and TV hosting. Young is currently in a relationship with actor Mikael Daez that after six long years of dating, confirmed to be “officially on” just this March 2017.
#9 Maria Julia Mantilla
Born in Trujillo, Mantilla, Maria Julia Mantilla aimed to be a high school teacher and is planning to get a second degree in tourism as she dreams of having an online tourism company so that she will be able to further globally uphold her native town and country. Mantilla was the second to win the crown (Miss World 2004 in Chinese beach city of Sanya) with her aunt as the first Peruvian to win the title in 1969. Aside from being a titled beauty queen, she was also an actress, dancer, model, and a teacher by profession.
#8 Priyanka Chopra
Former crowned Miss World 2000 is now one of India’s highest paid and most popular Bollywood celebrities. After winning the crown, she first ventured into acting in 2002 as well as engaged herself into singing career. Chopra was also a film producer, and a philanthropist who is an advocate of women’s rights, gender equality as well as gender pay gap.
#7 Rosanna Davison
Rosanna Davison was the first ever Irish to win the “Miss World” title. She bested 106 other contestants in the Miss World pageant in 2003 held in Sanya, China. Davison’s father was a famous musician, Chris de Burgh whom she begot her talent as a singer herself. She is also an actress and model by profession.
# 6 Jacqueline Aguilera
Venezuela got its fifth “Miss World” crown through Jacqueline Aguilera. She participated in “Top Model of the World” competition in 1995 in Miami, Florida, bagged the crown and became the first Venezuelan to win the title. In that same year, she was luckily the crowned “Miss World” and the “Miss Photogenic” at the sametime. She is now running a modelling agency in Venezuela.
#5 Aishwarya Rai
She competed in the 1994 “Miss World” pageant held in Sun City, South Africa. Luckily, she has able to win the crown as well as the “Miss Photogenic” award and “Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty- Asia and Oceania”. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, as she was also known (her married name), was also a successful actress where she settled herself as one of the most popular and influential celebrities in India. She was often referred to as the “most beautiful woman in the world” establishing herself as a fashion figure for young women.
# 4 Agbani Darego
She was the 51s’t “Miss World” titlist and the first Sub-Saharan African to win the crown. This beauty queen is a Nigerian model who competed in November 2001 in Sun City. Before winning the title, Darego worked as a print commercial model. Among her achievements is her, being the first black that had ever reached the Miss Universe top ten. She was recently married (April 8, 2017) to her longtime boyfriend Ishaya Danjuma, the son of Billionaire General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma.
#3 Zhang Zilin
Our Chinese beauty queen was proclaimed “Miss World” in December first 2007 in Sanya, Hainan and was the first South-east Asian woman to win the title. Zhang Zilin, being brought up to a family that values education, was an academic achiever. Her being a sport enthusiast who started training at the early age of eight, had probably contributed for her acquired perfect figure. Zilin is also an actress, singer and model at the same time. She was married to Neil Nie in Phuket, Thailand in 2013.
#2 Diana Hayden
Diana Hayden was the third Indian woman to win the “Miss World” title. Hayden, who bagged the crown in the 1997 pageant was also a model and a program host at the same time. On September 2013, Hayden married Collin Dick from Las Vegas, United States. She was twice named “the Sexiest Actress Alive” by Glamour’s magazine in their 2016 and 2017 issue.
#1 Ivian Sarcos
She was a Venezuelan beauty queen who first prompted to become a nun but had later realized that she has a greater passion in the fashion industry. To cater her desire, she started a modelling career. Ivian Sarcos joined the 2011 Miss World competition held in the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London. She has won the crown and became the sixth “Miss World” that comes from Venezuela. Despite of being orphaned at a very young age, Sarcos remained to be a stronger woman. To quote her saying: “This has taught me that life, although it may be bad, doesn’t have to end badly”.
